Los Angeles-based Encore Software announced today that it will be publishing Sacred, German studio Ascaron's new role-playing game. The agreement continues the collaboration between the two companies; Encore published two other Ascaron titles, Pirate Hunter and Patrician III, earlier this year.

Set in a medieval world predictably packed with monsters, barbarians, and sorcerers, Sacred will feature six different playable characters, including a seraph and a vampire. The game will also feature several other interesting features like horseback combat and 16-player multiplayer battles. GameSpot's preview has more lore on the fantasy RPG.

Sacred is scheduled to ship in March 2004 for the PC.
